August update

Kingdom 2 — fucking brilliant. The fight scenes were amazing.

20 master plots (honing the craft) by Donald B. Tobias. A breakdown of 20 plots that reoccur in most books.

Murder on the mind by L. L. Bartlett. A thriller.

Curfew by T. M. Logan. This is a good audiobook, but I wonder as fathers really that panicky when 16 year old teens say out all night? I didn’t about my boys. Back in the day, I was one of the one who stayed out all night. S, D and R&R.

Nothing at the moment. I finished Rookie (waiting for next season to drop). Was watching Outsiders — it’s good but the storyline is a tad unbelievable. Not the people living in the mountains, or the druggie cop, but the events that occur (mostly in town).

The truth slips out

CNN are deaf to it and ignore the truth and the reporter gets destroyed. He thought he was safe changing the topic to WW2. Nope.

Or this might be more fun:

A Nightmare so terrifying you could pit a mask on it and call it Jason.

So, yesterday, I finished the line edit of Death World. Over the last few months I have started writing book 2. It is a duology. I have been using Pages on my iPad pro.

I emailed the latest section to myself. Ch 5 and 6. I checked the other files as one does and I found ch 1, one paragraph of ch 2, no ch 3 or ch 4. I know I wrote them, I remember the sections. I started to freak out, as one does. Rewriting over 20,000 words is a real demotivator. I’ve done it before, way back in ’93 when the motherboard died on my IBM and in ’98 when my 20,000 yen laptop from somewhere gave up the ghost. Both times, I had back ups on 5.5 inch and 1.4 inch floppy drives. No one could get the files clean. They were corrupted. Truthfully, I think the company used different software.

Anyway. Not being able to find the files was driving me nuts. I found the back ups — a whole pile of them — not one of them were the missing files.

Panic set in. I searched my computer, found the same damn files.

Defeated, I collapsed in my chair.

I decided to get to work and clicked Goggle Drive, but clicked One Drive by mistake. It opened in files and there was a file called BK2. In the other files of these same name, only the above chapters were available. As I scrolled down, ch 2 was there in all it’s glory. Ch 3, 4, 5, 6 as well.

So, apparently, I was backing up on One Drive or writing directly to One Drive, as I still can’t find the original files.

New Zealand has been voted second worst country in the world to move to

New Zealand has been casted in a ballot as the second most terrible country on the planet to move to, as per a study of settlers in various spots all over the planet.

In an overview directed to almost 12,000 settlers, of 177 ethnicities and living in 181 nations, expat network InterNations found that Mexico beat the rundown of the best country to live as an expat, while New Zealand positioned second most terrible, beating just Kuwait.

Overview respondents positioned their new nations in view of measures like cost for many everyday items, security, organization, personal satisfaction, and others.

The responses from 12,000 individuals were gathered into the positioning of 52 nations – the ones for which they had a sufficiently enormous example size.

The Expat Insider survey is conducted by InterNations every year.

The top 10 countries to move to according to the survey are:

1. Mexico
2. Indonesia
3. Taiwan
4. Portugal
5. Spain
6. United Arab Emirates
7. Vietnam
8. Thailand
9. Australia
10. Singapore

The bottom 10 countries are ranked as follows:

43. Malta
44. Italy
45. Turkey
46. South Africa
47. Japan
48. Luxembourg
49. Cyprus
50. Hong Kong
51. New Zealand
52. Kuwait

Are you tell me that Mexico, Turkey, South Africa, are safer countries then New Zealand? Fuck you. Yes, kiwiland is expensive and there is a reason for that, it started 20 years ago when cashiers and the like demanded high wages. Which is fair. But the government saw an opportunity to get more votes and made it so the minimum wage went up every year by 50 cents. No one considered that the prices of goods would also go up.

Idiots.

They got their votes.

Damn the torpedo’s!

Finally got Covid-19

Thanks China.

Massive headache. Feels like a tiny knife being stabbed over and over again into the left temple. Not hungry for the past two days. I spent yesterday and most of the night asleep, only waking up to stagger to the head.

This morning I only managed to eat half a sausage roll.

The the amount of typos in this post is pissing me off. Is that a sign of Covid-19 as well? I don’t know. Yesterday, my balance was fucked up with the headache affecting my ear.

The weird thing is, I don’t know where I caught it.

COVID-19 symptoms vary from person to person, and so does the time it takes for the symptoms to appear. In general, it may take between two to 14 days after exposure to COVID-19 for symptoms to appear. According to the WHO, on average it may take 5-6 days for symptoms to appear.

Symptom onset also depends on the variant to which one is exposed. The incubation period for the Delta variant was shorter than the previous variants, and for Omicron it appears to be about three days, on average.

Some people have mild to moderate symptoms including fever, cough, tiredness, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, aches, and pains, while others may have more serious symptoms.

via Health Desk

I didn’t have a fever until three days later. Aches and pains on Thursday night, tiredness (yes, I had to push myself, using the desk, to get to my feet). I was falling asleep during breaks when I should have been writing. If this takes three days then I caught it on Monday. I just checked my schedule for last Monday, and only 2 students were new to me. One adult who brought her kid to the class and one child, around 8.

Everyone seemed fine.
