Wow, what an introduction to an author I’ve never head of before. And what a cool PI (almost as cool as my fella lol). Jeff Resnick always had a skill growing up; he could finds things on a whim and often new the answers to questions before asked. He never gave his ability much thought.
One night at a bar with his friends, he has a vision of a deer coming out of the mist. The vision is short as his friend Marty asks if he gonna play his shot. They are at a pool table. Later Jeff heads home. He doesn’t make it as he is mugged and a baseball bat slams his head.
Comatose for four days, he wakes up to see his half-brother, who offers to look after him, until he is better.
As so starts an excellent book.
Great storyline, plot, and a weak sub-plot but that easy to ignore. I have read many thrillers and I’ve written a few as well, but reading about a physic PI was very interesting and I love how Jeff doesn’t want these visions that are dolled out little by little with intuition growing stronger by the day.
I like how L. L. Bartlett deals with medication addiction and overdose. It’s handled well and not preachy at all. She stays within the confines of the plot.
