Tower of Babel

From the opening of the video posted below:

4,000 years ago there was a powerful, progressive, and incredibly wealthy city. It developed into one of the greatest cities in the world. The streets were paved, numerous gates led into the walled city that had over 250 towers that were at least 100 meters high. This is where modern writing and mathematics were invented. Ferries, roads, and drawbridges ensured efficient transport, and the mythical Hanging Gardens were a feat of engineering and were one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The city’s wealth was unimaginable. The people created impressive works of art out of gold, there was a golden image of Baal, a beautiful table that was supposedly made of 22,000 kilos of pure gold, with a golden lion and a golden statue of Man. The majestic Royal Palace was the largest ever built in world history.

We’ve heard of Babylon. One of the greatest stories in the bible. The tower they built to reach God. Before attempting such a feat. They invented writing, math and astrology. And wrong down rules / laws so everyone could remember and learn them.

After losing Babylon twice before rebuilding and losing it again, 43 years later to Persia (Iran), the new rulers decide to build a tower high into the sky. The bible says the Babylonians wanted to reach God. History and records kept state otherwise. The workers were also ordered to forgot their language and learn other language/s. This lead to miscommunications and lack of comprehension so that the tower was never completed. In the bible, it says God was so pissed with the Babylon people wanting to reach him, that he changed all the languages so no one could understand and the tower would not be completed.

5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building.

6 The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.

7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”

So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.

9 That is why it was called Babel[c]—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world.

Genesis 11:5-9
